Dark Light

Experience a heist game in a way you have never before experienced before. It’s a game by William Pugh the Co-creator of The Stanley Parable.

Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist is a highly narration driven experience. It doesn’t have replay-ability like The Stanley Parable, but it is very worth experiencing. As matter of a fact, I would highly recommend to play it through yourself before watching streams or videos about it.

It’s free, It’s about 20 minutes to play through, well worth the time investment and you will laugh or at least smile… unless you are a robot.

You can get it at Steam http://steamcommunity.com/app/409160

I want to talk more about it so…
Following contains spoilers…

It’s a game by William Pugh, so you know it’s not going to be exactly what you would assume. I still started the game thinking it would actually be a heist game.

As soon as you start the game you start to discover that the game isn’t what it claims to be. I ended up looking at the wall for the first couple minutes, before I even figured out it was a wall and little while later I was told to get off the table. Because I’m that smart.

The game is full of extra readable content, you can just leave them on the table or the floor, but you are missing out on some great gaming jokes/puns. For an example there’s instructions for the actors in the “game”…

Like many others I enjoyed The Stanley Parable, but to be honest there was times when Source engine was showing its age and there was room for graphical improvement. This game does not have that problem. The aesthetic aren’t ultra realistic, nor should they be. I can honestly say that I think this game looks beautiful by today’s standard.

I managed to spend couple hours on this game hunting the Steam achievements and that brings me to the next point. The game tracks [Alt]+[Tab] and [Shift]+[Tab] combinations (or what ever your Steam In-game binding is) and disables the achievements if you use them! (Not including the game completion) Why? So that you can not use guides, to figure out achievements.

In the end I did complete all the achievements in the game, but I still left with questions. Is there still somethings to figure out in this game. After all it is an brainchild of a same person who made The Stanley Parable and there are post-it notes all over the map, that could be hints of something hidden in-game. Notes like these:

“1868 6263 2469 5948″ Maybe you have to input it before the numpad breaks. Maybe you need to collect all the notes and combine the information somehow. Or maybe it’s nothing and we would just be trying to catch our own tails.

In the end I loved the experience and l can’t wait to see what Pugh and his team at Crows Crows Crows has to offer us next.
